Fingarette Awards
The department is pleased to announce the second round of awards from the fund established in honor of former UCSB philosophy professor Herb Fingarette by a generous gift from his daughter Ms. Ann Hasse. Surraiya Baloch and Rick Lamb received awards to present their work at conferences at Duke University and Marquette University respectively, and Katherina Gontaryuk received an award for travel to a workshop at Rutgers University.

Congratulations Ethics Bowl!
Our team came in second place and is the National Runner Up for the 2024 Association for Practical and Professional Ethics Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. In a competition that included 36 teams (among them Stanford and Yale), UCSB’s team came in second only to UNC. If you see any members of our team, please offer congratulations.

Congratulations Ethics Bowl
Congratulations to our undergraduate Ethics Bowl team for their performance at the 2023 Regionals competition held at Cal Poly SLO in December! Our team went all the way to the finals, knocked out only by Stanford in the final round. They have nonetheless secured a spot at the Nationals competition to be held in Cincinnati in February, 2024.

Kerong Gao and Daehwi Jeong will be receiving support towards presenting their work at upcoming conferences of the American Philosophical Association. Salvador Escalante Diaz Barreiro will be supported for an extended visit to Princeton University where he will conduct research for his dissertation.
