Sherri Lynn Conklin New Position

Congrats to Sherri Lynn Conklin (UCSB PhD, 2020)! Her project "Tools for Philosophers Pursuing Non-Academic Careers" received $5,000 in support from the APA Fund for Diversity and Inclusiveness. Also recently, she was hired as the CEO of a tech startup (AviAI, Inc.), won the GEM Startup Assistance Grant, and secured their participation in three competitive startup accelerators: the G2 Summer Launchpad Startup Accelerator (UCSB), Starburst Aerospace SCALE Startup Accelerator (UCLA), & the Berkeley SkyDeck Pad-13 Incubator Program (UCB).  

Ethics Bowl Regional Results

Congratulations to the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl debate team for placing second in the California Regional Competition (with twenty-four teams competing) and advancing to the National Finals this spring -- the fourth consecutive year that the UCSB team has made it to the national playoffs! Well done, UCSB!

Team 1 placed second in the regional competition, and consisted of Natalie Ries, Nica Aranaga, Schuyler Capita, Jaze Matteo Wharton, Conor Beezhold, and Aisha Shah (alternate).

Juliana Lima New Position

Juliana Lima (PhD, UCSB 2018) just started a tenure track job at Azim Premji University. Congratulations!

Amanda Greene Joins Department

We are delighted to announce that Amanda Greene, a well-known specialist in Political Philosophy currently on the faculty at University College London, will join our department as a tenured Associate Professor in Fall 2022.
